Celebrating the life of
Catherine Ellzey DavisJuly 21, 1917 - December 16, 2007

Tybee Island- Mrs. Catherine Fogarty Ellzey Davis “Mutt”, born July 21, 1917, passed into eternal rest, December 16, 2007at home in peace surrounded by loved ones.

She was born at Telfair Hospital in Savannah and was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Thomas Fogarty, Sr. and Elizabeth Knox Farrell; step-father, Joel Thomas Farrell and daughter, Joel Marie Floyd.

She was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and worked effortlessly as a volunteer from the opening of St. Michael’s School. She was one of the original organizers of the thrift shop and a volunteer for countless years, a life member of the Tybee Lite Shrine Club along with many other Tybee Clubs. She owned and operated Ellzeys Market on Tybee.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Hubert K. Ellzey, Jr. and Vianne Ellzey; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine “Sally” Bazemore and Emory B. Bazemore; brother, Ret. Col. Daniel Thomas Fogarty, Jr. and his wife, Mary Ann Fogarty; seven grandchildren, Walter Elbert Byrd, Jr., Leisa Marie B. Ecklin, Hubert Kendle Ellzey, III, Jenny Vianne Ellzey Patrick, John Marlowe Ryan, Kirstie Marie Wooten and Lex Kyle Bazemore; five great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; three nieces; one nephew; first cousin and loving friend, Elenor Rimedio and special friends, Genevie O’Connor and Micky Brady.

Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2007 with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with The Reverend P. James Costigan officiating.

Active Pallbearers will be Walter Byrd, Jr., Lex Bazemore, Clint Byrd, Alex Fisher Bazemore, Daniel Thomas Fogarty “Chip”, III, Hubert Kendle Ellzey, III and Westin Patrick.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jules Cantin, Earnest Hosti, Lou Cook and Donald McLendon.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Immediately following interment, there will be a luncheon at the American Legion, Post 154 on Tybee Island.
